these chocolate cupcake toppers are easy to do
& make any cupcake or other frosting-covered dessert look fun & fancy!
i made mine valentine's day themed, but they could be used for any holiday or event.
you'll need:
frosted cupcake (or other frosted dessert)
chocolate (i used nestle milk chocolate chips)
plastic baggie
wax paper
melt the chocolate following the instructions on the package.
if no melting instructions, place chocolate in microwavable bowl
& heat on high for 30 second intervals, stirring in between each 30 seconds.
be careful not to get chocolate on the sides of the bowl - it will burn!
a little bit of chocolate goes a long way - i used about 1/4 c of chips.
pour melted chocolate into baggie.
this is most easily done by putting the baggie in an empty cup
& folding the opening over the sides.
push all the chocolate to the corner of the baggie
and cut a SMALL hole at the end of the bag.
be prepared for the chocolate to start coming out of the hole right away.
start making designs with the chocolate on the wax paper.
these can be shapes, words, squiggly lines .... whatever!
just remember that these designs will have to lay across the cupcake,
so size your designs accordingly.
place the sheet of wax paper on a tray or cookie sheet,
and put in the refrigerator or freezer until completely hardened (at least 10 minutes).
once hardened, very carefully peel the wax paper away from each design,
and place the design over the top of the cupcake, pushing into frosting gently.
keep in mind that as the chocolate reaches room temperature,
it will curve around the shape of the cupcake.
these designs will not stand up for very long,
so laying them across the cupcake it better than trying to stand them up in the frosting.
serve, & enjoy!
are you making any valentine's treats?
